The River Wye is renowned as being the canoeing capital of Europe.
It is a truly a majestic river; full of wildlife and colour. We at The River Wye Canoe Hire Company specialise in Canoe Hire & Guided trips on the River Wye as well as a range of other outdoor activities including Guided Mountain Bike trips, Guided walks, Abseiling & Rock climbing. We operate from as far up as Glasebury and down as far as Redbrook, south of Monmouth, which many regard as being one of the most picturesque river sections in the UK.
The River Wye Canoe Hire company is based at Ross Sports Centre in Ross-on-Wye. The Simons family have well over 20 years experience in the canoe hire business on the River Wye and own two centres in the Wye valley, one in Ross on Wye and the second in Symonds Yat West.
Through the utilisation of our local knowledge, experience and high standards, we aim to offer a personal, friendly and safe experience for all to enjoy.
Allow us to take away the stresses of every day life, so you can enjoy a relaxed and pleasant journey down the Wye each time that you embark on this experience with us.
Every trip we offer can be tailored to fit your needs. Catering for those who may have never canoed before, to those experienced and in need of a fresh canoeing challenge.
Our regular trips run from a half-day trip up to a four or five day trip where typically we launch you way up the river at Glasebury or Hay on Wye. Camping, B&B's, bunk house accommodation, hotels and youth hostels can all be found for you, as well as advice on public stop off points for picnics and BBQ's. All these details can be found within this site and in our gallery.
Depending on the journey you choose, whether it be a short paddle or a longer journey, we will transport you from our base by mini bus to your chosen launch point.
Upon arrival we will give you a full health and safety briefing regarding your trip, which includes river safety, canoeing and paddling techniques, stop offs ( egress and portage points) camp sites and what to look out for en-route to make your trip a truly remarkable experience.
The River Wye Canoe Hire Company's extensive fleet of open Canadian canoes are 'Old Town 174 Canoes and Mad River canoes'. They are sturdy and versatile, capable of carrying 2 to 4 people as well as all the kit that you may require for your trip.
Although our canoes are designed to carry 2 adults and 2 small children, for the less experienced paddler we can also raft 2 canoes together to make a stable raft that will rule out capsizing.
Prices include the hire of the canoe, buoyancy aids, paddles, helmets and dry barrels. The only additional charge is made for the transportation of your canoe up river or for collection down river from our base.
Contact us and we will be more than happy to discuss trips and the options open to you. Our personal friendly service, aims to ensure that from the start to the finish of your journey - you will have a wonderful experience.

On behalf of all those who took part in the Challenge down in Wales last week I would like to extend a big “thank you” to all of you who helped the challenge go so smoothly – whether we stayed with you, ate a meal at yours or used your services, you all helped things run smoothly.
We started around 2.30 on Wednesday climbing Snowdon and finished around 9.00 on Friday night outside of the Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. There were many moments along the way which people will remember for some time to come.
Without the help of you all it would have been a lot tougher to pull all this together so thank you.

Hi Mark, thanks again for the 6th year in a row for another great weekend.
Once again thanks for a fantastic weekend, weather was fab as usual?? see you next season. Have a great break, dont work to hard.
Hi Mark and the lads at The River Wye Canoe Hire Co. We would just like to thank you all for the trip last weekend, we had a great day and will see you in 2015.
Dave & Sophie
Thank you for looking after us so well on our visit on Sunday. We had a great time and all enjoyed the trip with both boys exhausted and sleeping like babies on the drive home.
Thanks again and be assured of our strong recommendation to friends and family.
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me organise what was a great trip from Ross on Wye to Monmouth.
Sorry we did not thank you in person yesterday but you were snowed under with people. Davin and I had a fantastic time – you have such a beautiful area to work in! Also, thanks again to your wife for coming to pick us up. Hopefully, more people will hire with you
as I am passing on the good word to friends, colleagues etc.
Many thanks for the weekend we had a great time. The length of the days were just about right for the water and weather conditions and the campsite and pub recommendation were as described and what were needed.
We left a menu from the pub as requested. It was busy as expected but the food was hot and the quality was good albeit the prices were probably slightly on the high side for a basic pub but beer and service good and no reason to complain at all.
We liked your centre’s organisation and timings. You got us to where you said when you said and the amount of demonstrations and information we found to be right. Other firms we have used tend to run late and seemed to take ages in getting everything together. The drop off location was good and details on over night stop were good (Although we missed some of the landmarks on the first day so were not 100% sure how well we were progressing).
The collection again was well organised and a good stopping point, although you were that efficient we did not have time for a pint!!
All in all a very good weekend and we will definitely be doing it again.
A group of us came up in July and spent a couple of days canoeing down from Ross on Wye to Redbrook, stopping overnight at Ye Old Ferrie Inn. I meant to contact you sooner to say a big thanks for all your help, we had a great time.
Spent 3 days canoeing down the Wye from Ross-on-Wye to Redbrook. Our group of 12 consisted of adults and children. Mark and his team were brilliant from the moment we arrived, the quality of the information, instruction and guidance we were given was excellent. Mark was there to meet us when we stopped each day. His friendleness, expertise and overall service was fantastic.
I would definitely recommend doing this trip and would certailnly recommend Mark and his team as the company to go with.
A huge thumbs up for the River Wye Canoe Hire and Mark Simons. We have just finished a three day exped down the Wye using Mark’s kit. Not only did Mark give us a great deal but also gave valuable info and tips on how we could get the most out of our trip.
I would highly recommend him. to anyone. We hired 8 canoes and associated kit from him so if you are a large group Mark can cater to yours needs, this is the man and the company for you. Without his willingness to go that extra bit for us it would not have been a pleasurable as it was. Thank you very much from myself, the children and all at Coln House School.
